Tree removal in Auburn
The City of Auburn welcomes residents to check with them before doing work to ensure they secure any needed permits. Currently, property owners may remove up to 6 trees in a 12-month period without obtaining a permit. There are a few exemptions to this rule and in those cases, City approval is needed beforehand.
List of exemptions
- Removal of trees on property with environmentally sensitive areas (wetlands or streams).
- Removal of trees on property with hillsides that have moderate or steep slopes.
- Topping of trees on property in or near a wetland, stream or on a hillside.

Homeowners don't need to worry about these requirements if their property doesn't contain a critical area so normal maintenance (like pruning) can do done without concern.
